Funding secured by Sen. John Laird supports outreach along upper Salinas River
– The SLO Beaver Brigade has received state funding secured by state Sen. John Laird for its work along the Salinas River, which runs through Paso Robles and Atascadero, according to the nonprofit.
The support is one of five projects across San Luis Obispo County, according to the release. The funding will help the group identify opportunities for conservation, public access and habitat restoration along the river corridor.
“We just finished our annual survey of the upper Salinas River, from the Salinas Dam to the San Luis Obispo-Monterey County Line, collecting data on beaver dams and habitat health,” said Audrey Taub, executive director of the SLO Beaver Brigade. “This state funding gives us the vital capacity to connect with local landowners and community members to identify opportunities for habitat connectivity along the river.”
“While future grant programs will fund ground-level restoration, Senator Laird’s investment provides the crucial bridge to engage our community, educate landowners on beaver coexistence tools, and bring people together around river health,” Taub said.
Landowners along the Salinas River interested in beaver coexistence, habitat assessments or restoration opportunities can contact the group at info@slobeaverbrigade.com.
A-Town Daily News previously reported on Laird’s funding for a Salinas River study and the group’s summer river cleanups.
