SLO Beaver Brigade hosting summer river cleanups in North County
Cleanups are designed to improve both the appearance and function of the Salinas River.
– The SLO Beaver Brigade will host a series of volunteer cleanup events along the Salinas River this summer in Paso Robles and Atascadero.
The free events are open to the public and are intended to remove litter and debris from riverbanks and surrounding areas along the river.
Organizers said the cleanups are designed to improve both the appearance and function of the Salinas River. The SLO Beaver Brigade will provide supplies, including trash pickers, gloves, and bags, as well as snacks and light refreshments for volunteers.
The cleanup schedule includes:
- Saturday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to noon.
- Tuesday, July 8, from 6 to 8 p.m.
- Wednesday, Aug. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Specific cleanup locations in Paso Robles and Atascadero will be provided after registration.

“We are thrilled to bring the community together for a common cause — protecting the Salinas River for both people and wildlife,” said Eli, volunteer coordinator for the SLO Beaver Brigade. “Whether you can make one event or all three, every pair of hands makes a real difference.”
The SLO Beaver Brigade, a nonprofit organization founded in 2020, works to educate residents about the role beavers play in local watersheds. According to the organization, beavers help improve riparian areas, increase landscape resilience to fire, drought, and flooding, and create habitat for other species.
