The weather service issued the heat advisory at 1:31 a.m. Thursday for part of southwestern California. The advisory calls for highs ranging from 92 to 105, with most areas seeing peak heat Wednesday and Thursday.
The weather service said hot temperatures could cause heat-related illnesses and that warmer-than-normal overnight temperatures could add to heat discomfort. Forecasters may extend the advisory into Friday for parts of the forecast area.
Officials advised residents to drink fluids, remain in air-conditioned rooms, avoid the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. People spending time outside should wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and limit strenuous activities to the early morning or evening.
