UC Master Gardeners host free seedling workshop in Paso Robles
Attendees will learn how to select, plant, and care for seedlings
– UC Master Gardeners of San Luis Obispo County will host a free community workshop, “Success with Seedlings,” on April 12 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Centennial Park. The event will take place in the Live Oak Room at 600 Nickerson Drive in Paso Robles. Free registration is available at ucanr.edu/sites/mgslo/, with preference given to those who pre-register.
Master Gardeners will provide information on selecting healthy vegetable, flower, and herb seedlings from nurseries, maintaining them before planting, and ensuring proper spacing, soil depth, and amendments. The workshop will also cover post-planting seedling care. Attendees will have time for questions, and if weather permits, the Demonstration Garden will be open for visitors to observe gardening techniques and speak with Master Gardeners.
The Demonstration Garden at Centennial Park is a partnership between the city of Paso Robles and the University of California Regents for the UC Master Gardener Program of San Luis Obispo County. The garden aims to promote water conservation, assist home gardeners, and provide food donations to a local pantry.
The garden features eight plots demonstrating various low-water gardening techniques, including sections dedicated to trees, grapes and berries, lawn alternatives, a kitchen garden, curb appeal and pollinator-friendly plants, a year-round bulb garden, composting, California native plants and wildlife habitats, and fire-resistant succulents.
“These regular free workshops offer a special opportunity for home gardeners who have questions or want to learn more about gardening,” said Maria Murrietta, program coordinator for the UC Master Gardener Program of San Luis Obispo County.
