Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation’s raising funds for families facing pediatric cancer through virtual 5K
Anyone in California can virtually join the event throughout the month
–Each September, Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation invites the community to join them in acknowledging National Childhood Cancer Awareness month through their “Gold Ribbon Campaign“.
The “Gold Ribbon Campaign” is the foundation’s flagship awareness and fundraising campaign run annually every September through a variety of different events, such as a luncheon and this year’s first ever virtual 5K race or 1-mile family run/walk that is open to everyone in California.
The virtual race/walk will run through the entire month and participants can run anywhere they’d like, whether on their neighborhood streets, at a local park or on an exercise machine. Tracking and time submissions are handled through the “ITS YOUR RACE” mobile app, which is available on both Android and iOS. All participants will receive a shirt shipped to their address from the foundation in exchange for registering.
All proceeds go towards the foundation’s fund to aid eligible families with children who are suffering from cancer that are requesting assistance. Families that have faced extra hardship in the wake of Covid-19, which has led to lost income, food insecurity and left parents of such immunocompromised children ridden with anxiety over their wellbeing.
The foundation has so far been able to help provide financial assistance through its “Special Circumstances Fund” and gift over $37,000 in gift cards, groceries cards and gas vouchers to these families. Other efforts include converting the emotional support groups they offer into virtual form, which has doubled the number of support groups they can offer, as well as doubling the number of families receiving special deliveries for the foundation’s holiday efforts like “Project Christmas”.
Interested parties may find more information and begin registering at the event page starting today until the end of September.
