SLO police book man on robbery, elder abuse charges
– Police arrested Anthony Smith, 60, Monday after investigating the reported robbery of an elderly man on Prado Road in San Luis Obispo.
Officers with the San Luis Obispo Police Department responded at about 6:18 p.m. June 29 to the 400 block of Prado Road for a report of a robbery involving an elderly victim.
According to police, Anthony Smith, 60, a transient in San Luis Obispo, approached the victim from behind, placed his hands on the victim’s shoulders, and instructed him not to turn around. Police said Smith then removed the victim’s mobile phone from his pocket, searched him for additional property, and fled the area.
The victim, an adult male and San Luis Obispo resident, was not physically injured during the incident, according to police.
Responding officers located Smith near the intersection of Higuera Street and Granada Drive. During the investigation, officers recovered the victim’s stolen mobile phone.
Police said Smith is on parole through the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation for burglary.
Smith was arrested and booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of felony robbery, felony elder abuse, and a felony parole violation.
