– The Central Coast Medical Association announced that Dr. Andrew Anthony has been named the 2024 Physician of the Year for San Luis Obispo County. Dr. Anthony, who was nominated by his peers, is recognized for his contributions to healthcare, physician education, and community service.

The Physician of the Year Award honors physicians who demonstrate leadership in patient care, dedication to their colleagues, and commitment to the community. Dr. Anthony currently serves as facility medical director for TeamHealth Hospitalist Medical Group at Adventist Health Twin Cities. Colleagues commend his perseverance, kindness, and dedication, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he provided critical care to patients.

Dr. Anthony’s career in medicine has a personal dimension; he follows in the footsteps of his father, Dr. Bramwell Anthony, a respected OB/GYN in San Luis Obispo and a former Physician of the Year award recipient. Dr. Anthony completed his undergraduate studies in biology at UC Irvine and earned his medical degree from Ross University. After finishing his residency in family practice at Altoona Hospital in Pennsylvania, he returned to the Central Coast to serve the local community.

Dr. Anthony’s achievements were highlighted in a presentation by Dr. Julie Fallon, who spoke about his role as chief of staff at Twin Cities Community Hospital and his contributions to the hospital’s governing board. Dr. Fallon also shared details about Dr. Anthony’s personal interests, including his involvement in community theater and his support for the San Francisco Giants and 49ers. “Dr. Anthony is the definition of perseverance and truly the rock of our medical community,” said Dr. Scott Negri.

During his acceptance speech, Dr. Anthony, who was joined by his wife and children, expressed gratitude for the recognition. He spoke about growing up as one of six children in San Luis Obispo and how his early job in hospital housekeeping shaped his career path. “Medicine is wonderful,” he said, adding that his children inspire him to be his best. “You make a difference in people’s lives, and that’s what keeps me going.”

The Central Coast Medical Association’s mission is to promote the science and art of medicine, patient well-being, public health, and the advancement of the medical profession. The association, which has 600 physician members across all specialties, serves Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties. For more information, visit www.CCMAHealth.org.
