San Luis Obispo Airport recognized for environmental stewardship

Accreditation signifies that the airport has implemented effective carbon management strategies

– The San Luis Obispo County Airport (SBP) announced that it has been awarded Airport Carbon Accreditation Level 2, recognizing the airport’s commitment to environmental sustainability and carbon emissions reduction.

Airport Carbon Accreditation is an internationally recognized program that assesses and recognizes airports’ efforts to manage and reduce their carbon footprint. Level 2 accreditation signifies that the airport has implemented effective carbon management strategies and demonstrated significant progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

“We are thrilled to achieve Airport Carbon Accreditation Level 2, which reflects our ongoing dedication to environmental stewardship,” said Johnson, director of airports. “This achievement underscores our commitment to minimizing our environmental impact while providing essential air transportation services to our region.”

Achieving Level 2 accreditation results from the airport’s comprehensive sustainability initiatives, energy efficiency improvements, and waste reduction efforts. Looking ahead, SBP will continue to focus on its environmental impacts and implement new processes to promote recycling and waste reduction while collaborating with stakeholders to encourage sustainable practices.

In the United States, 75 airports have received the Airport Carbon Accreditation recognition, with five of those airports located in California.

“We commend the team at San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport for their dedication to sustainability and their successful efforts to reduce carbon emissions,” said a representative from Airport Carbon Accreditation. “By achieving Level 2 accreditation, the airport has demonstrated leadership in environmental responsibility within the aviation industry.”

The airport’s commitment to sustainability aligns with its broader mission to provide safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible air transportation services to the residents and visitors of San Luis Obispo County.
