Mountain lion spotted at Cuesta College
Two mountain lion sightings occurred on Cuesta College’s San Luis Obispo Campus over the past three weeks
– According to the Cuesta College Police Department, on Aug.17 at approximately 9 p.m., a pair of mountain lion cubs was sighted near the college’s maintenance yard, located along the southwest border of campus near the O’Connor Road entrance. A mountain lion was also spotted in the same area on the evening of Aug. 3.
“We are asking Cuesta College students and personnel to be very vigilant and aware of their surroundings while on campus, especially in the evenings,” said Cuesta College Police Department Chief Joseph Arteaga. “We are recommending that when parking on campus, to avoid roadway perimeters and instead park in the inner area of the parking lots.”
Police officials say that in the event of a mountain lion encounter, to not turn and run, but directly face the animal, appear as large as possible and yell. The Cuesta College Police Department is asking that mountain lion sightings be reported immediately to Campus Safety at (805) 546-3205.
