Local company to donate bedding to homeless shelters

Danican, the United States division of Ever Rest of Denmark announces a new program, “Danican Cares,” which will be distributing mattress and pillow protectors, known as “Danican Care Packages” to shelters in San Luis Obispo County. The protectors will come in five-piece sets to provide total encasement of mattresses and pillows to provide moisture protection as well as preventing bed bugs, dust mites, viruses and bacteria from inhabiting bedding.

“It is an important part of our company, and my personal mission, to support people in need,” stated CEO Thomas Frismodt. “These protectors will help shelters save resources by keeping an essential part of their services — beds and pillows — from being destroyed.”

The first organization to benefit from the Danican Cares Program is the El Camino Homeless Organization (ECHO) of Atascadero. They are a homeless shelter serving all of San Luis Obispo County on California’s Central Coast.

They are a 50-bed transitional shelter helping families and individuals find permanent housing with three months of entering their program.

Many of their clients are working poor who are unable to find affordable housing, or are the elderly and/or veterans. Many are families with children or those struggling with physical and mental illness.

“The Danican Care Packages will help protect valuable assets — our mattresses and bedding — from being damaged because of bed bugs or other destructive elements,” said Interim Executive Director and Volunteer Coordinator Mimi Rodriguez. “We appreciate donations that help families get back on their feet and provide a comfortable, safe place until that goal is reached.”

In 2014, Danican donated over $5,000 in product to RISE in Paso Robles, which provides a variety of services to victims of domestic violence. These were brand new pillows and pillow and mattress protectors. Most of these products were product samples or prototypes.

This is the first year for the Danican Care Package Program, and the company plans to increase distribution as it grows. “We hope to expand support of shelters throughout the Central Coast after we help the organizations in San Luis Obispo County first” Frismodt adds.

Shelters who are classified as 501 C (3) non-profit organizations can inquire about the Danican Cares Program by contacting Kristene Thompson at: kt@danican.com.

CEO Thomas Frismodt and his wife, Naomi Juul-Borre Frismodt, moved their family from Denmark to Templeton, CA in 2011. Thomas Frismodt is expanding distribution of Danican’s bed products to North America. Danican distributes its mattresses, pillows and protectors in more than 30 countries around the world. In 2012, Thomas Frismodt started distribution in North America from the Atascadero, California US headquarters.
