Introduction to encaustics workshop this month at Morro Bay Art Center

Encaustics Workshop Morro Bay Art Center

Participants can learn the beginnings of encaustic techniques

– The Morro Bay Art Association will host a mini-workshop on encaustics led by artist Vicky Hoffman on April 23 from 1-4 p.m. at an off-site location that has yet to be determined.

Encaustic art is created through techniques that incorporate using a heated encaustic medium with added colored pigments like beeswax on a surface like wood or canvas.

The mini-workshop on encaustics will provide a hands-on introduction to the basic techniques of the encaustic process and will utilize beeswax, resin and pigment. Participants will be introduced to transfers, mark-making, embedding elements, incorporating mixed media, papers and tips for achieving a smooth surface.

Vicky Hoffman is a member of the Los Angeles Art Association/Gallery 825 and her work has appeared in Kolaj Magazine and Fabrik Magazine.

The one-day workshop will cost $75 for members and $85 for non-members. All materials are included in the cost of the class, however participants are encouraged to bring an apron and three items for inspiration.

Anybody interested may register via visiting this webpage and can cancel up to 7 days ahead of schedule. All attendees must wear a mask and show proof of Covid-19 vaccination at the class.
