Hot weather in the forecast for Atascadero
Heat advisory in effect
– A heat advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday, and an extreme heat watch is in effect from Tuesday morning through Thursday evening as high temperatures are expected to remain well above normal across the region.
After reaching a high near 91 degrees Friday, temperatures are expected to ease slightly over the weekend before climbing again early next week. The forecast calls for a high of 84 degrees Saturday, 85 degrees Sunday, 86 degrees Monday, 90 degrees Tuesday, 94 degrees Wednesday and 90 degrees Thursday. Overnight lows are expected to range from the upper 50s to low 60s.
The National Weather Service said temperatures could reach up to 102 degrees during the current heat advisory. During the extreme heat watch, dangerously hot conditions with temperatures between 95 and 112 degrees are possible in portions of southwest California.
Forecasters said Friday is expected to be the warmest day during the current advisory before a slight cooldown over the weekend. Temperatures are then expected to increase again next week, with monsoonal moisture adding to the discomfort.
The National Weather Service warned there is a high risk of dangerous heat illness, especially for young children, older adults, people without air conditioning and those who work or spend extended time outdoors.
Residents are urged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned buildings when possible, avoid prolonged sun exposure and check on relatives and neighbors. Officials also remind the public never to leave children or pets unattended in vehicles, where temperatures can become lethal within minutes.
People spending time outdoors should wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing, limit strenuous activity to the early morning or evening hours, and watch for signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Residents should continue to monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates.
