Horse survives 50 foot fall from Montaña de Oro trail
The horse walked approximately five miles after returning to the trail
– A horse and rider escaped injury after the animal fell approximately 50 to 60 feet from a trail at Montaña de Oro State Park on Friday evening, Aug. 7, according to reports.
Cal Fire and San Luis Obispo County Fire said on X that crews responded to the animal rescue near Oats Peak.
A California Highway Patrol H-70 helicopter helped transport rescuers into the area. Personnel from California State Parks, the Morro Bay Fire Department, and the San Luis Obispo City Fire Department also assisted with the response.
Crews cut a safe path from the slope back to the trail. The horse then climbed back to the trail under her own power, according to Cal Fire.
Rescuers accompanied the horse and rider approximately five miles out of the park. Cal Fire reported that neither the horse nor the rider was injured.
