road work ahead sign

Caltrans to install new mile markers

– Caltrans will begin intermittent overnight lane closures on northbound US 101 in San Luis Obispo County starting on Monday, Sept. 9, at 9 p.m. for the installation and replacement of post mile marker signs. The work will take place from the San Luis Obispo County/Santa Barbara County line to San Ardo.

Lane closures will occur Sundays through Fridays from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Once work on northbound US 101 is completed at San Ardo, crews will begin installing and replacing mile markers on southbound US 101, from San Ardo to the San Luis Obispo County/Santa Barbara County line. This work will also take place Sundays through Fridays from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The project will continue in Monterey County, with a schedule to be announced once confirmed.

Mile markers are useful for travelers and emergency responders in identifying locations on the highway. This project is expected to be completed by December 2024, weather permitting.

The contractor for this $254,000 project is Interstate Civil Construction of Wrightwood.

Caltrans reminds drivers to slow down and use caution in work zones to ensure the safety of crews.
