Update: CHP releases identity of man killed in Highway 46 collision

– The California Highway Patrol has released information about a fatal head-on crash that occurred June 7 on Highway 46 east of Green Valley Road, identifying the victim and announcing the arrest of one of the drivers on suspicion of driving under the influence.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded at approximately 9:39 a.m. to a crash on Highway 46 in an unincorporated area of San Luis Obispo County.
Investigators said Oscar Pena Estrada, 21, of Cambria, was driving a gray 2014 Ford Mustang westbound on Highway 46 at an unknown speed. Dean Carl Voigt, 62, of Ellisville, Missouri, was driving a white 2016 Ram 2500 eastbound on Highway 46 with a camping trailer in tow at an unknown speed.
For reasons that remain under investigation, Pena Estrada allowed the Mustang to travel into the opposing traffic lane and into the path of the Ram, resulting in a head-on collision, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Cesar Pena Estrada, 29, of Cambria, a passenger in the Mustang, died at the scene.
Voigt and his passenger, Kelly Voigt, sustained minor injuries.
Oscar Pena Estrada sustained major injuries and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Due to his injuries, he was transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol’s Templeton Area office.

Fatal collision reported on Highway 46
– A fatal traffic collision occurred on Highway 46 West, approximately five miles east of Highway 1 Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol. Three other people were injured, according to reports.
The collision prompted the closure of Highway 46 West for approximately two hours. Authorities diverted traffic and advised motorists to expect delays.
