Fareed files correction regarding claim made about Carbajal donation
–Earlier this week, the campaign to elect Republican Justin Fareed to U.S. Congress claimed in a fundraising email that incumbent Congressman Salud Carbajal (D-Santa Barbara) was being funded by a Nazi collaborator. Fareed’s campaign has now issued the following clarification of their claims:
Yesterday, we sent out a couple of emails to you highlighting the donation given to Mr. Carbajal by Jonathon Soros, son of George Soros.
I made the decision to send out an email based on views about Soros’ role during the Nazi occupation of Hungary in World War II highlighted in a 60 minutes interview that Soros did with CBS’ Steve Kroft.
After looking into the matter more closely, I realized that this aspect of the Soros record is disputed and controversial. On that basis, I retract that allegation and will let you draw your own conclusions about it.
What is clear is that out of district, billionaire mega-donor Soros does not share our Central Coast values, and funds political ventures across the world to promote his own personal agenda of socialism and anti-Israel foreign policy views. Not to mention his support of the oil and gas industry, despite him hypocritically parading around as an anti-oil and gas environmentalist.
Moving forward, I will ensure that there continues to be a focus on presenting you with the facts that allow you to make an informed decision about the issues of this campaign, including the sources of my opponent’s campaign funds and what they represent.
That being said, I would ask you to consider the contribution to Mr. Carbajal’s campaign for what it is—a contribution from the Soros family, one that does not represent our Central Coast values.
As your congressman, I will ensure your voices are heard.
All the best,
