County sending aid to Santa Barbara after mudslides
–On Tuesday, the State Office of Emergency Services contacted the Sheriff’s Office in regards to providing mutual aid to Santa Barbara County for assistance in dealing with the numerous mudslides occurring in that county.
The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s department is currently sending approximately 40 members from their agency and allied agencies throughout the county, as well as the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team. Many of those members have already arrived on scene and are responding to the incident. The Sheriff’s Office is coordinating with our allied agencies to provide further resources to Santa Barbara County if additional requests come in from the State Office of Emergency Services.
The death toll from the mudslides that struck southern Santa Barbara County climbed to 15 on Wednesday, and rescue crews are continuing to search for anyone trapped, injured or dead in the onslaught of mud that smashed homes and swept away cars, says KSBY.
