City of Atascadero announces updates to spring events
–The City of Atascadero is working hard on bringing fun 2021 springtime events back for the community to enjoy, while still keeping COVID-19 safety guidelines in mind. The city recently announced a number of updates to spring events this year.
On St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, the Atascadero Farmer’s Market will be expanding their hours of operation to 3-6 p.m. as Daylight Savings begins. If you visit the market on this lucky day, you can spin on the Lucky Wheel for your chance to win something green and healthy. Then on Wednesday, April 7, the market will be celebrating the four-year anniversary of being back in Downtown at Sunken Gardens. While it’s not time yet to do a big celebration or gathering, live music will be added to the market on that date, for shoppers to enjoy.
Starting in April, the Charles Paddock Zoo will expand its daily operation hours to be open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Many of the annual zoo events like the Spring Festival and “Party for the Planet” Earth Day celebration will have to be canceled this year, however, the zoo is working on a virtual “Party for the Planet” on April 17 and will be presenting Brew at the Zoo as a virtual “Home Fest” event on April 24.
The Brew at the Zoo “Home Fest” will be held on April 24 from 12:30 – 3:30 p.m. Participants will receive a 14-pack of craft brews from San Luis Obispo County and across California. The “Home Fest” will take you on a virtual journey to experience tastings with brewmasters for each of the artisan beverages in your 14-pack right in the privacy of your own home. Hosting a virtual watch party would be a great way to enjoy the event with your friends, while benefiting the Charles Paddock Zoo. There will be fun contests, musical entertainment with Bear Market Riot, animal appearances with our zookeepers, and more. For tickets, go to VisitAtascadero.com/Brew-at-the-Zoo.
While the city had hoped to be able to hold the 6th Annual Tamale Festival and present it as a part of a 2021 Cinco de Mayo celebration with a rescheduled date of Saturday, May 8, it is unfortunately just too soon for an event of this size. The Tamale Festival will be postponed again to Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022. If you are a vendor for this event, the city will honor the current vendor application for the 2022 event and there’s no need to resubmit.
The city is currently ramping up to bring back the Saturday in the Park Summer Concert Series, and is on track for the first concert to be held June 12. Band applications are being reviewed and the band lineup will be announced soon. If you are interested in sponsoring the concert series, contact Terrie Banish at [email protected].
City event updates will be provided as June and the summer season approaches. Until then, event information can be found at VisitAtascadero.com/events.
