Awakening Ways celebrates 9th anniversary

–Atascadero residents Rev. Dr. Frank and Rev. Terry ZumMallen will celebrate their ninth year leading a growing New Thought ministry called Awakening Ways Spiritual Community this Junes. The group meets at the beautiful Atascadero Pavilion on the Lake at 9315 Pismo Avenue at 10 a.m. Their Sunday “Gathering,” as it’s called, has uplifting music and a talk from one of the two Rev’s, who generally alternate as speaker. There is also a popular children’s class during that time.
“New Thought is a uniquely American spiritual teaching and healing tradition that began in New England in the 1840’s,” said Frank. “Its name comes from the philosophical goal of ‘taking a new thought about the ancient teachings.’”
Retired schoolteachers and ordained ministers of Religious Science, the ZumMallens, who have been married for 34 years, have been in ministry for 17 years. They returned to Atascadero in 2007 from Northern California and began teaching classes in their living room. By June 2008, the classes had blossomed into Sunday Gatherings. Now, nine years later, Awakening Ways has grown to include hundreds of members from throughout the county.
“We chose the name Awakening Ways,” said Terry, “because New Thought encourages people to ‘live the consciously awakened life.’ We offer ongoing classes in Practical Spirituality to help people awaken to their own spiritual magnificence, which provides ways for them to create lives that are spiritually inspired and lived from the heart.”
Awakening Ways is committed to having a positive impact on Atascadero with donations of meals and service to ECHO, which helps the homeless, food for Loaves & Fishes, clothing donated to NCI Thrift Shops and highway cleanup on 101.
