Atascadero optical shop moves to new location
Grand opening set for May 8 at 5915 El Camino Real
– Specs by Kyla has relocated to 5915 El Camino Real in downtown Atascadero, moving into the historic old Bakery building across from the Carlton Hotel after five years at its previous location.
The new space features an open concept with high ceilings, exposed ducting, colorful lighting, and natural birch shelving. During the renovation, interior brick was exposed to reflect the building’s history.
Owner Kyla opened the optical shop in July 2021 and has since fitted more than 3,500 frames for customers in the local community. She has held certification from the American Board of Opticians since 1996 and has attended eyewear trade shows in Milan, Italy, and Paris, France, to source styles and brands for the shop.
“You looking good in your eyewear is the best business card I could ever have; everyone will ask you where you got your glasses,” Kyla said.
Specs by Kyla has donated more than $6,000 to nonprofits supporting adoption and foster care causes, including Seneca SLO County, Family Care Network, and ECHO. The Atascadero Chamber of Commerce recognized Kyla as its Woman of Influence in 2023. In 2025, Invision Magazine named Specs by Kyla America’s Finest Optical.
The shop will host a grand opening on May 8 from 3 to 7 p.m., with a ribbon cutting at 4:30 p.m. The event will include a trunk show by Theo Eyewear, featuring frames from Antwerp, Belgium.
Specs by Kyla is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. The shop is located at 5915 El Camino Real in Atascadero. More information is available at specsbykyla.com or by calling (805) 460-7575.
