Student uses communication device to lead school in Pledge of Allegiance during AAC Awareness Month

– Atascadero Middle School is marking AAC Awareness Month in October, and one student marked it by leading the entire school in the Pledge of Allegiance using his communication device, according to the Atascadero Unified School District.

AAC stands for augmentative and alternative communication. It gives people other ways to share their thoughts, needs, wants, and ideas without relying solely on oral speech.

Student Liam Warner teamed up with Mr. Spiller to use his AAC device to lead the school in the Pledge of Allegiance this week, according to the district.

“Moments like this remind us that everyone has a unique and valuable voice which deserves to be heard!” the district wrote in its Oct. 9 newsletter.
