City of Atascadero adopts 2045 General Plan update
Council approved the plan at its Sept. 22 meeting
– The Atascadero City Council has adopted the 2045 General Plan update, the city’s long-range blueprint for growth, development, and infrastructure over the next two decades, according to the City of Atascadero.
The council approved the plan at its Sept. 22 meeting. The city’s last comprehensive general plan update was adopted in 2002, according to the project website.
A general plan sets the framework for a city’s land use and zoning decisions. Atascadero’s updated plan covers land use and community form, economic development, mobility, recreation and open space, public services and infrastructure, and safety and emergency preparedness, according to the city.
The council also certified the plan’s environmental impact report, prepared under the California Environmental Quality Act.
The plan grew out of a multi-year public process that included more than 20 community workshops, public surveys and stakeholder discussions, the city said. A-Town Daily News reported on one of the city’s calls for public input earlier in the process.
“This updated plan marks the culmination of a major planning effort with substantial community input,” Mayor Charles Bourbeau said in the city’s announcement.
The city will carry out the plan’s land use policies through an update to its zoning code. The Planning Commission is scheduled to review the zoning code update Oct. 6, and it is expected to go before the City Council on Oct. 27.
