Atascadero council to take final vote on zoning code overhaul Tuesday

Council also to consider $125,000 contract for public safety facilities testing
– The Atascadero City Council is scheduled to take a final vote Tuesday, Nov. 10, on the city’s comprehensive zoning code update, which would repeal and replace the city’s zoning and planning rules and its official zoning map. The council meets at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 6500 Palma Ave.
The meeting agenda lists only consent calendar items, which the council considers routine and approves with a single vote unless a council member asks to discuss one separately.
The zoning ordinances are up for adoption on second reading. According to the agenda, the update would repeal and replace Title 9, Zoning and Planning, of the municipal code, add lot line adjustment standards to the subdivisions chapter, and bring zoning into line with the 2045 General Plan and the previously adopted housing element. The council adopted the 2045 General Plan update Sept. 29. The city budgeted $150,000 for the zoning update, including $127,833 for consultant services, with the remaining funds going toward online codification of the code.
The council also will consider awarding a $125,000 contract to Krazan and Associates for geotechnical materials testing and inspection services for the Public Safety Facilities project. The money would come from Measure D-20 sales tax funds. A total of $6.75 million in those funds is budgeted for soft costs on the project.
Council members also will consider continuing a resolution that declares an emergency and allows the city manager to contract for storm drain system repairs ahead of the 2026-27 El Niño winter season. The agenda lists no direct fiscal impact from continuing the resolution.
Other consent items include a Capital Asset Policy amendment, which has no fiscal impact, and the minutes of the Oct. 27 meeting.
