Zoo Boo draws families to Central Coast Zoo in Atascadero

Visitors participate in games and photo opportunities while learning about animals

– Zoo Boo returned for a two-night run at the Central Coast Zoo in Atascadero.

Friday and Saturday night, dozens of costumed children walked through the Central Coast Zoo for the annual “Zoo Boo.”. Families posed for pictures, visited the animals, and won treats at Halloween contests of skill. Some of the kids danced to Halloween music like Monster Mash.

Near the reptiles Saturday evening, Sofija Radojevic supervised the ring toss. Kids threw rings at owl statues lined up across the pathway.

After a young contestant hit her with a ring, Sofija explained, “The object is to get the ring around the owl. There’s no bonus points if you put the ring around my head.”
Central Coast Zoo Board Member Monica Carr wore a spotted leopard costume to promote the idea of acquiring the species for the Central Coast Zoo.

The star of Saturday night’s event was “Boo,” the Great Horned Owl, who stood on a stump near the pathway and hooted at passersby. The 25″ owl threw her entire body into each “hoot.” Boo is over 50 years old, but she apparently still enjoys seeing so many people turn out to raise money for the continued success of the Central Coast Zoo.
