Young Paso Robles man dies in motorcycle accident near Morro Bay
–On Monday at approximately 12:35 p.m., a fatal injury traffic collision occurred on Highway 41 south of Bear Ridge Rd. near Morro Bay, according to California Highway Patrol.
Paul Joseph Nelson, 20, of Paso Robles, was driving a 2002 silver Suzuki RS650 motorcycle southbound on Highway 41 south of Bear Ridge Rd., at an undetermined speed and traveling with three other motorcycle riders prior to the collision.
Hollye Ann Parsley, 53, of Morro Bay, was driving a 2014 red Toyota Prius with a juvenile male as a passenger, northbound on Highway 41 south of Bear Ridge Rd., at approximately 55 to 65 MPH, prior to the collision.
Nelson was attempting to catch up to the other three riders when he overtook a slower moving vehicle. Nelson for unknown reasons failed to observe Parsley approaching from the opposite direction and began to pass the slower vehicle. Nelson moved into the northbound lane to pass, directly into Parsley’s path of travel. Due to the close proximity of the vehicles, neither driver was
able to avoid colliding head-on. The front of the Suzuki collided with the front of the Toyota within the north bound land. The result of the collision caused Nelson to be ejected from the Suzuki. Nelson subsequently sustained fatal injuries from the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Parsley sustained minor injuries to her lip and no injuries were sustained by her passenger.
The California Highway Patrol is conducting the collision investigation and no alcohol or drug use is suspected by either party.
