Woman reaches for cell phone cable, crashes car on Hwy. 101, CHP reports
A woman reaching for a cell phone charging cable crashed her car Friday night on Highway 101 in San Miguel, California Highway Patrol reports. The woman suffered moderate injuries after the car rolled over.
Paso Robles resident Blanca Renteria, 24, was driving northbound at 9:25 p.m. when she temporarily took her eyes off the road to reach down for the cable, CHP reports. She lost control of her 1997 Honda Civic when it drifted off the left side of the road and onto the dirt median, the report says. The report says the vehicle rolled over twice after it hit a dirt embankment.
The car ended up on its roof in a traffic lane south of the Mission Street off-ramp, CHP reports. Renteria was able to extricate herself from her vehicle before she was transported to Twin Cities Hospital.
Renteria was wearing her seatbelt and alcohol or drugs are not suspected as factors in the crash, the report says.
