Woman found dead due to apparent medical episode at Atascadero gas station
Police performed CPR, but their resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful
– A woman was found dead Monday morning after suffering a fatal medical episode in a parking lot, according to multiple reports.
The Atascadero Police Department responded to a call at 7 a.m. about a car stalled at the Chevron gas station on San Anselmo Road.
Officers arrived within minutes and found a woman, approximately 50 years old, unresponsive in the driver’s seat. The vehicle appeared to have sustained minor damage after rolling forward and colliding with a metal storage container for propane tanks, reports say.
Police performed CPR, but their resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released, pending notification of her family.
Investigators believe the woman experienced a medical emergency while driving, causing her to release the brake, which led to the collision, reports say.
Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be factors in the incident, but final conclusions await autopsy and toxicology results. There were no witnesses or video footage of the incident.
