Vote-by-mail candidates must be postmarked on or before Election Day

vote by mail san luis obispoCounty Clerk Recorder Tommy Gong is reminding voters with vote-by-mail ballots to send their voted ballots on or before Election Day.

Due to recent legislation, vote by mail ballots that are postmarked on or before Election Day and received by the clerk-recorder within three days after the election are no longer considered “Too Late” and eligible to be counted. Make sure to sign the identification envelope and write your residence address before you return the ballot. If voters plan to send their ballots on Election Day, it is recommended to take their ballots to their local post office counter and request a “circle date stamp” so that the postmark can be affixed.

However, vote-by-mail ballots that are personally delivered must be received by 8 p.m. on Election Day, either at any polling place in this county or at the County Clerk-Recorder’s office in San Luis Obispo or Atascadero. On Election Day, Drive-by-Dropoff is available at the Monterey Street side of the San Luis Obispo office at 1055 Monterey Street from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you decide that you want to vote at the polls instead of voting the vote-by-mail ballot, take the ballot with you to surrender at the polls. If you have misplaced your ballot, you will be allowed to vote a provisional ballot at the polls.
