Volunteers needed for annual Atascadero Creek and Salinas River Cleanup Day
Cleanup Day will be held Saturday, Sept. 24
–Volunteers are being sought to participate in the annual cleaning of Atascadero Creek and sections of the Salinas River on Saturday, Sept. 24. These waterways are the primary source of recharge for groundwater aquifers, and keeping them healthy and free of pollution is an important part of protecting Atascadero’s water supply. The cleanup will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
To help make this event a success, the group is in need of volunteers from the community interested in participating in and/or being a team leader for the event. Team leaders will be in charge of a group of volunteers assigned to a specific clean-up section; it is helpful if leaders have trucks to haul the debris removed from the creeks. Leaders will deliver to the disposal/recycling area at Atascadero City Hall.
If you are interested in becoming a team leader, contact the City of Atascadero Public Works Department at (805) 470-3146.
Volunteers will meet at the city hall parking lot located at East Mall and Lewis Ave. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and work begins at 9 a.m. Remember to bring gloves, sturdy shoes, and a small backpack to keep your water in. Don’t forget to bring your family and friends too.
Refreshments, snacks, and lunch will also be provided to volunteers after the clean-up.
