Vitalant urges blood donations in Atascadero this September
Donors of all blood types are needed, especially type O
– Vitalant is urging all eligible donors to give blood during National Preparedness Month in September to help ensure the country’s blood supply is strong for emergencies. The nonprofit healthcare organization emphasizes that blood already donated can save lives when disasters strike.
On Wednesday, Sept. 11, Vitalant will hold blood drives and see donors at its donation centers, providing the community with an opportunity to honor those who lost their lives on that day in 2001 and the heroes who responded.
Vitalant notes that donors of all blood types are needed, especially type O. In emergencies, doctors use O-negative blood when there’s no time to determine a patient’s blood type, with O-positive as the next best alternative.
As a special thanks, Vitalant is offering donors who give blood between Aug. 30 and Sept. 4 a “Super Donor” T-shirt as part of its Donor Rewards program, along with a $10 gift card. Donors who give starting Sept. 5 will be automatically entered into the Pumpkin Spice Giveaway, with a chance to win one of five $5,000 prepaid gift cards of their choice.
Most people are eligible to donate, and it takes about an hour to help save lives. To review eligibility requirements and make an appointment, visit Vitalant, download the Vitalant blood donor app, or call (877) 258-4825.
