Two parking garages in downtown SLO to temporarily close for maintenance

– San Luis Obispo will implement alternating closures of the public parking garages located at 842 and 919 Palm Street during the last week of August for paint re-striping and markings.

The closures are part of the city’s initiative to enhance the downtown parking facilities, focusing on cleanliness, safety, and sustainability. The project includes the restriping of parking spots in the garages to ensure clear and easily visible markings.

The Palm Street public parking garages will not close simultaneously. Levels will reopen from the bottom floor upward as work is completed.

The 842 Palm Street parking garage, located across from the Palm Theater, will close on Monday, Aug. 26 at 11 p.m. and reopen on Wednesday, Aug. 28 at 6:30 a.m.

The 919 Palm Street parking garage, next to the library, will close on Wednesday, Aug. 28 at 7 a.m. and reopen on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 2 p.m.

Full parking will be available at the 871 Marsh Street garage during the closures, and carpooling is recommended. Daily commuters are encouraged to consider alternative transportation, such as biking, walking, and transit.

Downtown employees can save money and time by obtaining the SLO Transit Downtown Access Pass, a free 90-day bus pass available at the city’s finance office or downloadable to mobile devices. SLO Transit Bus Routes offer hourly service in both directions from various points throughout the city and downtown. For more information, visit www.slotransit.org.

The city is investing over $2 million in various parking maintenance projects to safeguard the future vitality of downtown San Luis Obispo as the cultural hub of the community. For more information about this project, visit www.slocity.org/Parking and click on the “parking projects” page.
