CHP

Both women were un-injured

–On Friday afternoon, at approximately 3:50 p.m., 38-year-old Atascadero resident Jennifer Mae Hemphill was driving her 2003 Saturn Vue Southbound on Highway 101 at 60 mph. Elizabeth Ella Smith, a 67-year-old Atascadero resident, was driving a 2013 Honda Pilot at 65 mph, also traveling Southbound on Highway 101.

Hemphill was reportedly distracted and failed to notice Smith’s vehicle and began changing lanes. Smith attempted to avoid a collision by driving into the shoulder, but was unable to avoid striking Hemphill’s vehicle.

Neither party sustained injuries.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in this collision, according to California Highway Patrol.

This collision is currently under investigation by the Templeton CHP Office.
