Twin Cities Community Hospital offers breastfeeding classes

Twin Cities Hospital
– Twin Cities Community Hospital announces Back to Work for the Breastfeeding Mother, a new class designed to educate and support successful breastfeeding for women returning to work. Lead by a registered nurse and international board-certified lactation consultant, this class offers resources, encouragement and an opportunity for open dialog among new mothers who want to integrate work and breastfeeding.

“Twin Cities understands that returning to work can be an obstacle for women who want to continue breastfeeding and we are committed to providing mothers with the resources to make their transition as seamless as possible,” said Shareen Taylor, Director of Obstetrics and Perinatal Services at Twin Cities Community Hospital. “Back to Work for the Breastfeeding Mother can help make the process easier for mom and beneficial for baby.”

In recognition of World Breastfeeding Week, the first class will meet on August 4, 2015, from 6:30pm-8:30pm in the Morgan Conference Room of the Founders’ Pavilion at Twin Cities Community Hospital. Topics for the class include:

• Adjusting to the physical and emotional needs of returning to work
• Why women need to express their milk
• Benefits to mom, baby, family, employers and society
• Transitioning baby to feeding while at work: Initiating pumping and introducing the bottle
• Laws protecting working moms

Classes are complimentary, but pre-registration is required at www.TwinCitiesHospital.com or by calling (805) 434-4965. Additional classes will be scheduled throughout the year.

Earlier this year, Twin Cities was internationally recognized as a Baby-Friendly birth facility. This achievement means the hospital is using some of the most effective methods known to help moms succeed at breastfeeding. Twin Cities is one of only 268 facilities in the United States to earn this status.
