Tips for a Stress-Free Wedding Day
The most common phrase amongst soon-to-be brides is, “planning a wedding is so stressful”. We don’t blame them. There is a lot of truth in that. And, to be honest, no matter how much you love planning, there is going to be stress. Different people want different things: mothers that want you to invite every extended family member from around the globe, mothers-in-law that want to know when they can have grandkids the second you say, “I do”, friends that want to wear white. We could go on.
It isn’t all bad. There is a lot you can do to make the day a lot smoother. Take a look at our tips on making the wedding day fun, not a reason to start losing hair.
Double-check the wedding rings
Traditionally, it’s the best man’s job to look after the wedding rings before the ceremony and typically, that is a little brother. But, whether it’s tradition or not, do you want to entrust them with two valuable rings?
Consider asking one of your bridesmaids cross the picket line to just make sure, and to keep your mind at ease. Alternatively, entrust your partner’s ring to your maid of honor.
And then there is buying the wedding ring in the first place. It can be a fun shopping trip to match your engagement ring with a suitable wedding ring.
There is a growing trend of stacked wedding rings at the moment, and they offer the practical benefit of proving more comfortable to wear alongside your engagement ring. If that sounds like something you like the idea of, take some time to browse different styles of wedding rings and see what takes your fancy.
Consider a second look
Whether we want to admit it or not, that beautiful, fairytale-esque gown is likely to be highly impractical. If it’s not floor length, it’s got a bustling skirt. If it’s not got the bustling skirt, it’s skin-tight. It takes sweat to move down the aisle, never mind dancing.
It’s becoming increasingly popular to switch into a second, or even a third outfit for the dinner and reception once the ceremony is over. You will look a dream either way, but at least you can look a dream and cut a rug in a pantsuit duo or a shorter skater skirt.
Think about the venue you’re at, too. If you are on the beach, like the sandy shores 20 minutes outside of Atascader, San Luis Obispo County, you might need better shoes than kitten heels to tackle any sand. Take a look at this guide to the best beach wedding shoes for brides — you’ll thank yourself later, when your guests are stumbling about like Bambi.
This is all in the name of keeping you comfortable. You don’t want the day marred by the fact you couldn’t move in your gown.
Pack an emergency kit
As the old adage goes, “hope for the best but prepare for the worst”. You won’t know what exactly you don’t have that you’ll need in the moment, but you can make educated guesses on the run up to the day. Fill a bag with breath mints, painkillers, blotting papers, a sewing kit, tissues, fashion tape, bobby pins, etc. If you don’t need it, you’ve only taken up a bag’s worth of space in the venue.
Entrust it to one of your bridesmaids or keep it in your hotel room at the venue and have it ready should something go wrong.
