Thunder rolls, lightning strikes, heavy rains fall

Hurricane Dolores brings unseasonably wet weather

– Atascadero, San Luis Obispo County, and much of California saw unseasonably wet weather this weekend, starting with thunderstorms, lighting and rain on Saturday night. The wet weather is expected to continue today, and into Tuesday, reports say.

Although the rain brought much needed water to the drought stricken landscape, it also brought some destruction. In North County, many homes were damaged from flood waters and mud. Around the county, several power outages were reported,.

Paso Robles is leading the county with rainfall reports of about 3.5 inches as of this morning. The previous record for Paso Robles for all of July was just .59 inches in 1950. Atascadero is currently clocking in at .82 inches.

Other parts of the county saw record breaking rainfall as well. San Luis Obispo set a new record on Sunday, totaling .84 inches, breaking the previous 1950 record of .46 inches.

Templeton has recorded 1.93 inches, Cambria 1.34, Arroyo Grande .88 and Pismo Beach recorded .79 inches.

Power outages, caused from lighting striking power poles, effected almost 7,400 North County residents, and in the South County, affected over 2,800.

At the beaches, there will be a large swell advisory in effect through Monday evening.
