There is lots to do in Atascadero
Update by City Manager Rachelle Rickard
–“There’s nothing to do in Atascadero!” If you’ve heard that statement around your home or even said it yourself recently, have you checked out all of the great activities to be found in the City of Atascadero Recreation Guide? The latest issue is available for free at the community center, library, chamber of commerce, city hall and on the city’s website. It is chock full of great ideas to help keep everyone in the family actively engaged and entertained.
The city offers recreation, education and entertainment opportunities for people of all ages and fitness levels – from art, dance and exercise classes, to popular adult and children’s sports camps and teams, to music appreciation and yoga. Do you have a fitness resolution? Check the guide for lots of great activities to help you get or keep in shape! For active retirees and seniors, there is an amazing 55+ yoga class, plus poker and bunco card groups. In addition, you can find driver’s education, dog obedience training, classical music appreciation, and much more!
And don’t forget the Charles Paddock Zoo! The new Madagascar Exhibit features animals that are among the rarest and most endangered species in the world. The zoo has a new group of lively and entertaining meerkats, plus a beautifully remodeled aviary where colorful, rare birds can be viewed and enjoyed. We recently broke ground on a new Red Panda Exhibit which will feature a state of the art “green” design and a fully interactive display. The Spring Festival will be held at the zoo from April 9 through 23, with lots of fun activities to enjoy with your favorite animal friends!
The Atascadero Trail Guide, available at city hall or on our website, gives the inside scoop into some of the best hiking and biking trails in and around Atascadero, including the new Three Bridges Trailhead project, located at the end of Carmelita Avenue; plus the Stadium Park, Juan Bautista de Anza, Cerro Alto, Atascadero Lake, Jim Green and Las Lomas trails, to name a few. Atascadero has a trail suitable for everyone, from leisurely strolls to strenuous treks, and the entire family can take advantage of our natural blend of clean air, serene beauty and breathtaking landscapes which include oak-studded hillsides, meandering creeks and panoramic mountain views.
Atascadero is a beautiful community with numerous recreational opportunities to fit all ages, skill or fitness levels and lifestyles. If you’ve never taken an art or language class, hiked our beautiful trails, ridden a bicycle around the lake, or visited the Charles Paddock Zoo, now is the ideal time to do it! Be sure to see the Recreation Guide for a full schedule of activities presented by our dedicated recreation team. And don’t miss out on the terrific outdoor excursion opportunities described in Atascadero’s Trail Guide! We think you’ll have to agree, “There’s always something fun to do in Atascadero!”
