Templeton man killed and three injured in Hwy. 41 crash
– A 77-year-old Templeton man, whose name has not yet been released, has died as a result of a head-on collision that occurred Saturday afternoon around 2 p.m., according to reports.
Reports say that 24-year old Nicholas Bundren of Atascadero was driving his Ford Fusion west on Highway 41 near Mission Drive, outside of Morro Boat, when he drove into the oncoming lane for unknown reasons, into the path of the Templeton man who was driving a Grand Marquis. There was also another vehicle involved in the crash, who was driving behind the Grand Marquis, and swerved to avoid collision, but was hit by the fusion as well.
Bundren was taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center with major injuries.
The driver of the Grand Marquis was also transported to Sierra Vista, where he was pronounced dead. His passenger, 64-year-old Diane Mercer, also of Templeton, sustained minor injuries, according to reports.
The driver of the third car was 27-year-old Richard Gentil of Los Osos. Gentil sustained minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital.
All passengers were reported to have been wearing seat-belts, and no arrests were made.
The identity of the Templeton man who died as a result of the crash will be released pending notification of his family.
