Jermin family plans to restore original 1912 building
– The Templeton community will hold two September fundraisers to support the restoration of the historic Templeton Feed & Grain after a July 4 fire destroyed the building’s 105-foot silos.
The poured-in-place concrete building, constructed in 1912 and housing the feed store, office and warehouse space, remains standing but requires full restoration. The Jermin family, which has operated the business for decades, plans to revive operations on the same property by restoring the historic structure and building a smaller warehouse for storage.
For generations, Templeton Feed & Grain has supported local school fundraisers and nonprofit causes. Following the fire, community members throughout San Luis Obispo County offered help. A local committee has now organized two fundraisers to directly support the restoration.
The first event, One Town, One Table, will take place Sept. 19. The 21-and-over farm-to-table dinner will be held at the site where the silos once stood. Guests will be served a multi-course meal made with locally sourced ingredients, paired with Templeton-area wines, craft beer and cocktails. Live music and an auction will also be featured.
The second event, The Grain Revival, will take place Sept. 21 in downtown Templeton from 3rd to 6th Street. Activities will include a family-friendly classic car show, live and silent auctions, a KJUG Radio broadcast, live music, and a kids’ area. Barbecue and vendor booths will line Main Street. Car registration fees and all event proceeds will go toward restoration efforts. Eligible vehicles include classic cars built before 1975, antique tractors and antique motorcycles. Awards will be presented in eight categories.
Organizers emphasized that the effort is intended not only to restore the building but also to safeguard the legacy of Templeton Feed & Grain, which has long been considered a cornerstone of agriculture in Templeton.
Community members credited with helping organize the events include Abby Allen of Templeton Market & Deli, Kevin Hamers and Lexi Evans of Hamers Construction, Kyle Flaherty of Just Us Event Consulting, Pati Coelho of Criu Hospitality Professionals, Taylor Odenwald, Joseph Daniels and Sierra English of Templeton Mercantile, Devon Johnson and Holly Collins of Ponderosa, Neil Roberts of Clavo Wines, Laurie Ion, retired clerk of the board for Templeton CSD, Geoff English, former Templeton CSD director, and San Luis Obispo County Supervisor John Peschong, District 1, among others.
