Suspect arrested after masked robbery at Chevron station

Steven Gabriel Huerta.

Suspect was on parole, wearing GPS ankle monitor while committing robbery, police say

San Luis Obispo Police Department officers arrested a man Feb. 16 in connection with a robbery at a gas station on Broad Street.

The incident occurred about 3:45 a.m. at the Chevron station at 3180 Broad St., when an adult male wearing a clown mask entered the business, threatened a clerk with a knife, stole cash from the register, and fled down the street.

Officers used video surveillance footage from the store to identify the suspect as 27-year-old Steven Gabriel Huerta, a resident of San Luis Obispo. Police said Huerta is on parole for sexual assault and is required to wear a global positioning system ankle monitor. Officers used the tracking data to link Huerta to the location at the time of the robbery.

Police located Huerta on Monday afternoon in San Luis Obispo and arrested him on suspicion of robbery and a parole violation. He was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail.

Bail was denied, and Huerta will remain in custody until the conclusion of the trial, according to police.
