Atascadero Joint Unified School District Superintendent Tom Butler.
–As the joys of summer draw to a close I’d like to welcome everyone to the 2016/2017 school year. Each school year brings with it a new sense of opportunity for student learning and the ongoing responsibility of our students, staff, and parents to form a partnership to meet our goals of producing the top students in the nation. It’s also a time for all of us to reflect on how fortunate we are to live, work, and attend high performing schools in a wonderful community that places a premium on high quality education.
I am pleased to report that the partnership between our students, staff, and parents has paid off in great dividends. On the state test our students performed brilliantly demonstrating excellent growth in English and Mathematics. Thanks to our entire Atascadero Unified School District staff for their purposeful contribution to student achievement and to all of our parents for their support and commitment to education. Education is truly an endeavor of human capital and as your superintendent I can state with conviction that we have the most highly capable students, incredibly talented staff, and benefit from a tremendous partnership with our parents and community. I encourage and expect that our staff, parents, and students will activate this partnership at the onset of the school year with the shared objective of maximizing student learning. When we work together I am certain we will accomplish amazing things; ultimately preparing our students to be college, career and citizenship ready.
This year we will be offering a “Parent Academy” for all parents in our school district. The academy will meet four times per year and we have developed a three year cycle of topics that will be highly useful to our parents. The primary purpose of the academy is to support parents in accessing and maximizing what our school district can do for their students. Please stay tuned for dates and locations of the Parent Academy. In addition, I hope that all of you have received your notification for the electronic parent portal which allows you to confirm your student’s emergency card information. Thanks in advance for keeping your contact information updated.
It’s a privilege to be part of such an outstanding school district and I am looking forward to a highly successful school year. If there is anything I can assist you with please contact me at (805) 462-4200.
