SLO Food Bank offers free CalFresh application help at the Atascadero Library
-A message from the SLO Food Bank-
– The SLO Food Bank is partnering with the Department of Social Services (DSS) to host a CalFresh Application Assistance Event at the Atascadero Library on Wednesday, Aug. 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. No appointment is needed—this event is free and open to the public.
Community members can receive one-on-one assistance with the CalFresh application process. Free food will also be available outside during our Neighborhood Food Distribution, happening 4:30 – 6 p.m.
Those interested in applying for CalFresh should bring a valid ID, Social Security number, and proof of income; for the Neighborhood Food Distribution, no documentation or appointment is needed—just stop by and pick up food.
CalFresh, California’s version of the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), provides crucial support for anyone managing a tight budget, enabling them to purchase nutritious groceries.
Community members who qualify for the program receive monthly benefits to acquire essential food items like fruits, vegetables, and other groceries. Benefits can be used at various locations, including grocery stores and farmers’ markets. The monthly benefit amount is determined by factors such as household size, income, and monthly expenses.
CalFresh recipients can also stretch their food dollars with the Market Match program, which doubles EBT purchases—up to a set amount—at participating farmers markets offering fresh produce, often marked with signs that say, “We Accept EBT and Offer Market Match.”
