Six week sketchbook workshop starts March 4

– The Morro Bay Art Association will conduct a six-week sketchbook workshop starting March 4, featuring artist Sarah A. Pletts.

The class, taking place at the Art Center Morro Bay from March 4 to April 8, aims to guide participants in filling a large sketchbook with images and writing. The course will include optional prompts distributed before and during the sessions.

Sarah Pletts, a versatile artist involved in painting, writing, dance/theatre performance, and screen production, will lead the workshop. Her background includes early training at the Miami Ballet Company, education at Pratt Institute in NYC, and having her visual art showcased in collections across the U.S. and Europe. Pletts’ work also includes illustrations for publications such as Scholastic Magazine, Macmillan, and the Audubon Field Guides. Notably, she has written and produced the Off-Broadway play “Henri’s Letters – about the Matisse legacy” and has engaged in various performances, including those for RAI2 television in Italy, Native American tribes, the 2002 Olympics, and “TREEtime” at the Teatro National de Nice, France.

Pletts, a finalist for the Colorado Book Award, is currently working on the libretto “Arthur’s Mother” and directs the 39-year-old international non-profit organization, Sarah Pletts Dance Theatre, Ltd., which receives grants from organizations such as Siemens AG, ABN-AMRO Bank-Monaco, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The workshop is designed for beginners and intermediate artists, encouraging participants to bring their preferred medium, such as colored pencils, watercolors, crayons, pastels, or craypas for creating in color.

A material cost of $17.50, covering the sketchbook, is payable to the instructor at the course’s start. The workshop fee is $110 for members and $120 for non-members. Sessions will be held on Mondays from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., with a minimum of 4 participants and a maximum of 10.

Individuals interested in participating can pre-register online at Art Center Morro Bay.
