Sewer blockage has 77 ASH patients without toilet access 

Atascadero state hospital–77 patients at Atascadero State Hospital have been without easy access to toilets and drinking water for nine days following a massive sewer blockage, and conditions are becoming “increasingly unsanitary and tense,” according to a report by the Tribune.

Each patient without access to a running toilet has been provided with a portable urinal, which reportedly requires staff to hand dump the urinals into a 5-gallon trash can, which in turn has to be dumped in a neighboring unit.

A contractor is currently working to repair the line blockage. “It’s turning into Lord of the Flies slowly,” said one staff member.
