Seven sentenced to prison for home invasion in Atascadero
–Yesterday, each of the seven defendants between the ages of 27 and 48-years-old were sentenced for their criminal involvement in a home invasion robbery in Atascadero on Feb. 11. Six of the defendants were sentenced to 5-years in state prison for two counts of home invasion robbery in concert with another person with an enhancement for being armed with a firearm. The seventh defendant, Joseph M. Perry, has been sentenced to 9-years and 8-months in state prison for two counts of home invasion robbery in concert and an enhancement for personally carrying a handgun during the robbery.
“This prison sentence sends a loud and clear message to anyone coming into our community to commit crime: you are not welcome to commit your crimes in San Luis Obispo County,” said District Attorney Dan Dow. “We have zero tolerance and will vigorously prosecute serious and violent crimes like these to ensure our community is safe. I want to thank Atascadero Police Department and the Sheriff’s Office for their outstanding investigation that led to the arrest of these seven violent criminals.”
On Feb. 11, 2017, seven masked/hooded individuals enter an Atascadero residence, tying up its inhabitants, and holding them at gunpoint. The individuals took, by use of physical force and fear, approximately $139,000 in cash and an estimated 885 pounds of marijuana from the residence. After the individuals fled the scene in two vehicles, they were contacted and apprehended by Atascadero Police Department officers. They were found with large amounts of marijuana, cash, and at least one firearm.
The sentence was imposed by the Honorable Craig van Rooyen in Department 7 of the Superior Court.
The case was investigated by the Atascadero Police Department, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office, and the District Attorney Bureau of Investigations. The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorneys Kristy Imel and Nick Quincey.
