School district announces new administrators
–Atascadero Unified School District announced the selection of three new administrators for the 2016-2017 school year: Kurt Payne, Kat Holmes and Marshawn Porter. Retiring this year: Kathy Sanders, Patty Newman, and Michelle Fox.
The three were selected and approved by the AUSD Board of Trustees at the April 5, board meeting.
Director of Curriculum: Kurt Payne
Payne began his career in the Reef-Sunset USD teaching upper elementary, he then moved to Lucia Mar Unified School District where he has taught life and physical science at the middle school level, and biology, environmental science, and AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) at the high school level. In addition, he is a master of project based learning and is currently teaching a course at Cal Poly in the teacher education program.
Principal of San Benito Elementary School: Kat Holmes
Holmes is a graduate of Atascadero High School and currently teaching a 5th/6th combination class at San Benito. In addition to her teaching duties, Holmes is the Teacher-in-Charge, a member of the School Site Council, and formally supporting new teachers as a mentor in the Teacher Induction Program.
Principal of Santa Margarita Elementary School: Marshawn Porter
Porter is currently the Coordinator of Career & Technical Education in Lucia Mar USD. Prior to becoming an administrator Porter taught family and consumer science including advanced child development, culinary arts, and nutrition science. During her career she has been the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Chair, Instructional Leadership Team Chair, and Career Pathways advisor.
