– The Republican Party on Thursday night hosted a school board candidate forum at the San Luis Obispo Republican Headquarters in Atascadero.

The candidates talked about reading, writing, math, and issues facing local education today. They shared their ideas on how to deal with state-mandated programs in education and the rights of parents to protect their children. They all agree this will be an important election for local schools throughout California.

This week, the Atascadero School Board appointed Matt Pennon to fill a vacancy created when Mary Kay Mills resigned in September. Pennon was chosen from a field of nine candidates.

Pennon recently moved to Atascadero from Los Alamos with his husband and three young children.
