San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Office introduces new K9 team
K9 Rik trained in patrol, firearm, and explosive detection
– The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office has officially introduced its newest K9 team, consisting of K9 Rik and his handler, Deputy Brandan Johnson, who will serve out of the North Patrol Station.
K9 Rik is a 3-year-old Malinois trained in patrol, firearm, and explosive detection. Before joining the Sheriff’s Office, Rik earned top honors as a 2024 KNPV Champion in the prestigious Dutch police dog competition.
The Sheriff’s Office shared excitement about welcoming the skilled duo to their team, with a post on social media saying, “While Rik’s job is all about hard work, we think he might just be the luckiest pup this Saint Patrick’s Day—getting to roll around in clovers and serve his new community!”
The office also encouraged the public to join in welcoming the new team, which will continue to serve and protect San Luis Obispo County.
