Robotics Expo coming to the Madonna Inn

Race your drone through the course and compete for the best time.

–On Monday, Sept. 24 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Alex Madonna Inn Expo Center, local high school robotics clubs will demonstrate their competitive robots. The event is presented by Softec technology alliance.

This spectacular event also features junior high and elementary robotics teams who use educational robotic leagues to advance STEM in schools.

Meet local organization who continue to support Robotics and Technology in education including The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) & Cal Poly Robotics club, SLO Makerspace, and Cuesta College.

In addition to $13,000 in grants distributed to each team, participants and teams will also be competing for best in theme for “Robots and Sports”.

Enjoy interactive stations for hands-on experience with drones, robots, Virtual Reality, and other special activities. We also have a special visit from SLO County Sheriff Bomb Squad; they will be demonstrating the capabilities of their bomb-handling robot.

Race your drone through the course and compete for the best time. The Drone Arena with obstacle course is sponsored by Digital West and is sure to provide additional thrills.

Electric Vehicles will be on display in the top parking lot. If you have an EV, bring it and you will be able to park in this lot as well.

Mindbody software is the title sponsor along with PG & E’s FIRST Robotics Partnership. The Santa Maria Chamber will help nourish the minds as well as the bellies of robotic students as a sponsor for students pre-game. Thanks to generous corporate sponsors, Softec will be distributing over $13,000 in scholarships to student clubs at the event. Softec has sponsored high school robotics teams since 2004 giving more than $49,000 of grants to date. We strongly believe that this event helps excite young minds about the technology industry.

Attendees may purchase food from Ta-Dahh Specialty Foods (Kid & Family Friendly food at reasonable prices) at the main entrance to the Expo Center during the event. Food service will begin at 5 p.m.

This event and parking are free. All ages are welcome to discover and participate. We are expecting to exceed last year’s attendance of 800 attendees.
