Roadwork continues for San Marcos and San Gabriel roads
Preliminary work, including potholing for utilities and replacing storm drain culverts, has been completed
– The City of Atascadero will begin construction for road rehabilitation work on San Marcos and San Gabriel roads. This road project is funded by a combination of Local Transportation Funds (LTF) and Urban State Highway Account (USHA) grants. This project includes rehabilitation of San Gabriel Road between Highway 41 and San Marcos Road, and San Marcos Road from San Gabriel Road to Portola Road.
Preliminary work, including potholing for utilities and replacing storm drain culverts, has been completed. At this time, the contractor will be working on milling the existing roadways and subgrade, cement treating the underlying soils, re-grading treated soils, and paving the roadways.
Following is the roadwork schedule:
- Tuesday, 10/12 – Friday, 10/15: San Gabriel and San Marcos Roads were pulverized, excess material hauled off, and roadway graded.
- Monday, 10/18 – Friday, 10/22: Full Depth Cement Treatment to be completed on both roads. By end of week both roadways will be will be graded and ready for paving.
- Monday, 10/25 – Friday, 10/29: Paving of both roadways, driveway approaches completed, Asphalt Berm placed.
During all operations, the contractor will be keeping at least one lane open for traffic during construction operations. Both lanes will be open outside of work hours. Flaggers will be directing traffic, and a pilot car will be provided during intensive operations to keep traffic operating with a minimum of delays. It should be noted that both roadways are narrow and the construction work is extensive, so delays of up to 15 minutes should be expected. Please be considerate of roadway residents and workers, and drive carefully on these roads during construction.
Residents in this area will be allowed into and out of their homes, and Monita Road will remain open to allow access to San Marcos Road and surrounding neighborhoods. All others are asked, if possible, to access their homes using alternate routes during active construction. Major roadway construction on this project is planned for completion by the end of October.
