Rep. Carbajal visits Atascadero Head Start Center
On Tuesday, Rep. Salud Carbajal (D-Santa Barbara) visited the Santos Arrona Head Start Center to interact and read with the children in the program. Head Start is a comprehensive childhood development program that focuses on increasing the school readiness of young children in low-income families. Carbajal was joined by Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo County (CAPSLO) CEO, Biz Steinberg. CAPSLO operates the Atascadero Head Start program.
Rep. Carbajal is an advocate for childhood education programs, and has taken steps in Congress to help secure funding for Head Start programs. Last month, Carbajal sent a letter urging the House Appropriation Committee to prioritize funding for Head Start, to make sure this program has the necessary resources to be successful in our communities.
“Every child on the Central Coast deserves to receive a high-quality education, and the Head Start program has a proven track record of ensuring school readiness for our children,” said Rep. Carbajal. “It was a treat to see the Atascadero Head Start program in action today. Funding for Head Start is a wise investment in our communities and I will continue to support these programs in Congress.”
“We were excited to have Congressman Carbajal visit the Head Start Center in Atascadero and read to the children,” said Steinberg. “During Spring Break, Congress members have been invited to read to Head Start Children across the entire United States and we were grateful to have Congressman Carbajal participate.”
